Be Back Soon

Need to take a few weeks off. I’m heading to the video game conference E3 in just over a week, and need the extra time to prepare. You can follow my E3 coverage at EveryJoe.com and Wired.com/GeekDad. I’ll be back here with lots more LEGO goodness when I return home.

(And I hope to get a hands-on look at Lego Universe Online while I’m there, so stay tuned!)

End of Days

Okay. So this thing is unquestionably cool. That’s a given. I mean, just look at it. Definitely one of the best MOCs ever. But what it is, exactly…? Haven’t got a clue. There’s a really long story that builder Nannan Z. (a Certified LEGO Ambassador) wrote to go along with it, but the story is vague and doesn’t offer an explanation.

If I had to guess, I’d say the Borg have landed and are slowly assimilating Syberia.

Dimensional Portal

This clever image, depicting a LEGO dimensional portal, has not been photoshopped in any way. The builder used dramatic lighting and glow-in-the-dark bricks to create this awesome scene. See more views here.

HMS Prince of Wales

The HMS Prince of Wales looks ready to sail the open seas. The builder took 6 months to craft this fine piece, and focused especially on historical accuracy. See high-res close-ups of all the details — including hand-roped rigging and real sails — at his Flickr page.

This is just plain cool. It’s the head of Darth Vader, made entirely out of Bionicle pieces. You’ll want to check out the high-res version to really appreciate the intricacy of how it’s all fit together. Truly amazing.

Is it real, or is it LEGO?

licenseplate.jpg

ootd.pngOriginal of the Day: 5/6/09.
Okay, I have no idea who made this scale replica of a license plate, but it appears to have been photographed actually attached to the outside of a car that was parked at LEGOLAND California. A close-up view of the build shows it is definitely made of LEGO Bricks. Whoever built this and affixed it to their Volvo… LEGO News salutes you. Pure genius!
